Garden Education Specialist Full-time

Salary: $15.14/hr

Given objectives set by the Vice President of Mission Engagement and Garden Education Manager, the Garden Education Specialist is directly responsible for the delivery of education programs offered by Riverbanks Zoo & Garden. As a direct report to the Garden Education Manager, the Education Specialist will ensure that all programs create connections and inspire actions to impact wildlife and wild places. 

Essential Functions:

  • Program delivery to audiences of many ages with an emphasis on preschool, family and adult learners
  • Serve as support staff for Riverbanks Nature Preschool including direct instruction as needed.
  • Projects as set forth by the Garden Education Manager
  • Lesson plan development and revisions as needed
  • Inclusive educational programs that encourage the meaningful participation of all learners
  • Communication of challenges and opportunities identified in programming
  • Program leadership in areas outlined by Garden Education Manager (i.e. Little Learners, Family Programs, etc.)
  • Assist with maintenance of the vegetable garden

Education and Experience: High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in an education or science related field preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Minimum of 1 year experience delivering formal/informal education. Must demonstrate excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and a willingness to work in outdoor environments year-round.

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and interest in nature and science. Riverbanks seeks educators who are creative, energetic, flexible and passionate about environmental education. Must demonstrate enthusiasm working with diverse learners.  Must be available to work occasional weekends and evenings. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC driver's license.
